Dear all,
Below is the write up in the souvenir program of the National Association of Mapua Alumni 73rd Grand Annual Homecoming & Convention as Kokoy was awarded 2007 The Outstanding Mapuan (TOM) in the Professional Field of Geology:
“Rodrigo C. Cal was born on March 13, 1963 in Toledo City, Cebu. Studied B.S. Geology at the Mapua Institute of Technology (MIT) as a full scholar of Atlas Consolidated Mining and Development Corporation (Atlas). He graduated in 1986 and immediately thereafter he got employed as a Geologist at the Atlas Copper Mines in Barangay Don Andres Soriano (DAS), Toledo City, Cebu. He took the Licensure Examination for Geologist in 1988 and obtained 11th place out of 50 examinees.
His 20 years of work in an operation mine ever since his graduation, enabled him to acquire wide-ranging experience, both hands-on and through close-up observations. He gained extensive knowledge on the management of the various phases of mining operation of the largest mine in Asia in the 80’s which was very valuable professional experience, and this could not have been obtained in any post-graduate training.
In terms of his professional career, he rose from the ranks to become Chief Mine Geologist at Atlas Consolidated Mining and Development Corporation, Division Manager of Surface Mines and General Manager of Hexagon Mining Corporation, a subsidiary of Atlas. Subsequently, when the Atlas Management decided to rehabilitate the Atlas Copper Mines Operation, Mr. Rodrigo Cal was appointed as Assistant Vice President and Resident Manager because of his competence and integrity. In recognition of his excellent performance, he was promoted in October 2006 to Vice President and Resident Manager, the position he currently holds in Carmen Copper Corporation, a subsidiary of Atlas Consolidated Mining and Development Corporation.
He is the only Geology graduate of MIT who has obtained such position of distinction at a young age of 44 years old. ”
Will post pictures soon. Thanks.
